Your Questions Answered

What is cash-based physical therapy?

In order to give the most optimal care, The Athlete House does not accept insurance. This enables us to guarantee each patient my undivided attention throughout their entire appointment. However, most insurance companies will provide reimbursement for services received "out of network," meaning you can submit documentation of your appointments (which I will provide to you) to your insurance for possible reimbursement. You can also pay for services with an HSA, FSA, or HRA. This process also means you will always be 100% aware of how much you owe for each appointment, with no surprise bills showing up in the mail months later.

Won’t I spend more than going to a traditional facility?

Fee-for-service physical therapy has shown to be more efficient at getting patients better faster AND cheaper. By the time you get in to see your primary (waiting an hour for a five minute exam and referral to PT... yikes), plus meeting your deductible, paying your co-pay each session, AND THEN receiving a huge bill later... the insurance model is just death by a thousand paper cuts - and a ton of lost time while you're still hurting!

Oh, and by the time you finally get to PT, you'll probably get about 15 minutes with your therapist each session and spend the rest of the time with someone else who didn't even examine why you're in pain! Would you pay a mechanic to fix your car just to let someone with no formal training work on it? Of course not! So why would we do that with our body??

At The Athlete House, we realize every day spent in pain is a day you can't do what you love. Because of this, we guarantee 1-on-1 care for your full hour appointment with the same PT, every time. This means you'll get the same amount of time with your Doctor in just 6 visits as if you went to a traditional setting 24 times! You'll save time, money, and ensure your full recovery faster than the traditional model can provide. This is how PT should be.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

Absolutely not! This is one of the best aspects of cash-based physical therapy. Since you do not need a referral, you will save both time and money that would be spent getting in to see your primary care provider (who would probably see you for less than 5 minutes, unfortunately). Don't worry! We are trained to identify issues that may warrant seeing a physician and will treat you accordingly.

How do I get reimbursed from my insurance company?

The process is surprisingly simple, and relies on your insurance policy. I will provide you with an invoice at the time of service that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. This invoice will have all necessary information needed for reimbursement and you may submit it to your insurance after each visit, one time per month, or any other interval up to one year following a visit.

What is your new patient procedure?

Everyone starts off with a free phone consultation to make sure we are the right fit to help you (if not, we will point you in the direction of someone better suited!) If we determine we are a good match, you will come in for an initial evaluation. This appointment will last one hour and will include a thorough process to evaluate your current impairments, a movement screen to identify any movement dysfunctions that could lead to future injury, and begin treatment to alleviate your pain. Afterwards, we will come up with a plan of care including how many follow-up sessions will be necessary to not only eliminate your pain, but also fix the root cause so it does not return.
